AMG looks set to build its own version of the next Mercedes B-class, which will go head to head with the Golf R and Audi S3 in the battle for the performance car buyer.
AMG’s boss, Volker Mornhinweg admitted to Automotive News that the hatchback would be an overt attempt by the tuning division to attract the young buyers who currently overlook Mercedes in favour of its German rivals.
A hot version of the B-class would almost certainly be the cheapest AMG available, but the next generation of Mercedes hatchback will have to be considerably better looking if the manufacturer hopes to pick the VW Group’s pocket.
