The new C-Class Coupé

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Seduction of the heart and mind

Athletic and sporty, the vivid, sensuous design of the new Coupé cuts a fine figure on the road and embodies modern luxury.

At the same time, its interior elevates beauty and style to a sporty level. A dynamically configured chassis, with optional air suspension, forms the basis for a high level of suspension comfort, low road roar and tyre vibration, agile handling, and driving pleasure.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015

Lightweight construction to reduce weight, excellent aerodynamics and high-performance, efficient engines likewise play their part.

A host of assistance systems provides safety of the very highest calibre. With its high-class appeal and generous interior, the new C-Class Coupé sets new standards in its segment.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

As the sportiest variant of the C-Class, the Coupé displays its driving enjoyment-oriented character in an emotive and at the same time formally distinct design.

A sporty striking front section featuring diamond radiator grille and long bonnet – the new Coupé is 60 millimetres longer than its predecessor between the firewall and front axle alone – gives way to a crouched greenhouse the lines of which flow into a bold and powerful-looking rear end incorporating the genes of Mercedes coupés.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015

A high beltline and frameless doors with free-standing exterior mirrors underscore the sporty character.

Clean lines and sensually arranged surfaces structure the side sections into vivid light and shadow effects. One particular highlight is the long drawn-out dropping line typical of a coupé.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

In contrast to the C-Class Saloon, the dropping line extends further past the rear wheel arch.

To underscore the Coupé’s sporty disposition, the suspension is 15 millimetres lower than that of the Saloon, making it a very sporty proposition when combined with the standard 17-inch tyres.

Interior: generous, dynamic, exquisite

The interior is likewise a statement of the Mercedes-Benz design philosophy of sensual purity and combines emotion with intelligence.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Although it exudes athletic and youthful charm, it has grown in maturity. Driver and passengers enjoy an ambience that leans toward the interior of the C-Class Saloon yet raises it to a new, sporty level.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Flowing forms characterise the centre console as well as the door and rear side panelling, which smoothly merge into one another to emphasise the coupé character.

The individually combined trim elements underscore the sporty character of the interior. A seating system including integral sports seats designed specifically for the Coupé offers sporty comfort.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

An automatic belt extender also offers convenience. The choice of materials and the workmanship have a hand-crafted feel with high-class appeal and deliver a new take on modern luxury: sportiness without compromising on comfort and exquisite style.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The unique position of the new C-Class Coupé is emphasised by the special upholstery colour combinations of saddle brown and black, porcelain and – in the Edition 1 – nut brown and black with turquoise topstitching.

With an 80 millimetre longer wheelbase, the C-Class Coupé is 95 millimetres longer and 40 millimetres wider than the predecessor.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The increased vehicle volume above all creates more spaciousness for the driver and front passenger. There is more shoulder room, elbow room and headroom on all seats.

Individual highlights

The Coupé features a wealth of equipment as standard. The AMG Line is available as an alternative to further underline the dynamism of the Coupé.

It differs by virtue of exterior features such as special bumpers and sills featuring AMG body styling, a diamond radiator grille with pins in chrome and 18-inch AMG light-alloy wheels.

Interior highlights of the AMG Line include sportily exclusive touches such as upholstery in ARTICO man-made leather/DINAMICA microfibre in black with contrasting topstitching, a multifunction sports steering wheel with flat bottom and AMG sports pedals.

The trim in open-pore black ash, combined with aluminium in the dashboard and the doors, emphasise the look.

Another eye-catching feature is the optional Interior Chrome package featuring numerous highlights shrouded in silver chrome, including the instrument cluster, the air vents and the door openers.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

AMG version with discrete appearance

The Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé differs significantly from the Mercedes-Benz model, which shares merely the doors, roof and boot lid.

The wider track on the front and rear axles called for a redesigned front end, a discrete rear end and new side walls. The strongly flared wings make the AMG Coupé 64 millimetres wider at the front and 66 millimetres wider at the rear.

The aluminium bonnet sports two striking power domes. The front end is characterised by a low-slung “twin blade“ radiator grille and large air intakes.

A front splitter helps to reduce lift on the front axle. Special side sill panels give the side profile a discrete appearance as well.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The suspension: sportily agile and comfortable

The suspension of the new C-Class Coupé offers a high level of comfort with low road roar and tyre vibration whilst ensuring agile driving dynamics – the basis for driving pleasure.

A new 4-link front axle with wheel suspension decoupled from the spring strut plays a part in the agile handling characteristics.

This enables sporty axle kinematics for plenty of grip and high lateral stability. As a result, the suspension responds more sensitively to steering movements and allows a sporty, agile driving style.

Multi-link independent rear suspension with 5 links ensures excellent wheel location qualities and supreme straight-line stability.

The Coupé comes with steel suspension as standard. Two suspensions with selective damping are available in conjunction with this system.

  • a comfortable AGILITY CONTROL suspension with sporty character and a ride height lowered by 15 millimetres compared with the saloon model
  • a sports suspension with tauter springing and damping including Sports Direct-Steer system for even more agile handling

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Air suspension

The Coupé can optionally be equipped with AIRMATIC air suspension on the front and rear axle.

Its electronically controlled, continuously adjustable damping on the front and rear axle ensures outstanding road roar and tyre vibration characteristics in any situation.

AIRMATIC also features all-round self-levelling for excellent ride comfort even with the vehicle loaded.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

You determine the driving characteristics

Drivers can choose the character of their Coupé at the push of a button: sporty, comfortable or consumption-optimised.

To this end, the driver can select one of five driving modes using the DYNAMIC SELECT switch: “ECO”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport +” and “Individual”.

Selecting “Individual” allows the driver to customise the vehicle settings to personal preferences.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Mercedes-AMG with discrete suspension

The Mercedes-AMG C 63 offers a special AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with adjustable damping.

The driver is able to influence the characteristics of the C 63 with four different AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes. The C 63 S has an additional “RACE” driving mode.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Efficient and lively engines

Powerful and efficient four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines with ECO start/stop function provide for sporty performance and driving pleasure.

All are compliant with the Euro 6 emissions standard. Compared with their predecessors, they consume up to 20 percent less fuel.

There are initially four petrol engines available for the Coupé. The output spectrum ranges from the 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine in the C 180 rated at 115 kW/156 hp to the two-litre C 200 (135 kW/184 hp) and C 250 (155 kW/211 hp) models and the C 300, likewise with a displacement of two litres but with an output of 180 kW/245 hp.

The two diesel models are equipped with a further advanced four-cylinder unit developing 125 kW (170 hp) or 150 kW (204 hp).

Both feature eco-friendly SCR technology (Selective Catalytic Reduction) for exhaust gas aftertreatment.

Power is sent to the road via either a 6-speed manual transmission, the 7G-TRONIC PLUS 7-speed automatic transmission or the new 9-speed 9G-TRONIC.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Lighter, stiffer and stronger

Intelligent lightweight construction with a higher proportion of aluminium helps make the Coupé lighter than its predecessor. Light-alloy components include the wings, bonnet and boot lid.

At the same time, the body is now much stiffer and stronger thanks to the use of high-strength materials, which has a positive effect on not only driving dynamics and noise levels but also crash safety.

The Coupé therefore follows a Mercedes-Benz tradition in not only meeting all current national and international laws, but also all rating requirements as well as the more stringent internal Mercedes-Benz safety requirements, which are based on what actually happens in real-life accidents.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Against the wind

Mercedes-Benz is setting the pace in the field of aerodynamics and offers the cars with the best drag coefficients (Cd values) in almost all vehicle categories.

The new C-Class Coupé boasts a Cd value of 0.26. This leading figure pays off above all when driving on country roads and motorways as wind resistance is greater than other forms of driving resistance at speeds above 70 km/h.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Driving safely, reducing stress

There is a host of safety and assistance systems based on the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive concept to choose from on board.

ATTENTION ASSIST with adjustable sensitivity, which can warn the driver of inattentiveness and drowsiness, is included as standard.

Further standard equipment includes COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS. Apart form a visual proximity warning and an additional audible collision warning, it includes Adaptive Brake Assist, which can help prevent collisions by boosting the brake pressure commensurate with the situation.

When a danger of collision persists and the driver fails to respond, the system is able to carry out autonomous braking at speeds of up to 200 km/h, thereby reducing the severity of collisions with slower or stopping vehicles or, in the best-case scenario, even avoiding the collision altogether.

At speeds of up to 50 km/h, the system also brakes in response to stationary vehicles and is thus able to help prevent rear-end collisions at up to 40 km/h.

Additional assistance systems with substantially expanded functions are optionally available, combining data from various sensor technologies such as radar sensors and a stereo camera as part of the Intelligent Drive concept to significantly enhance comfort and safety.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Airbags for safety

In addition to 3-point seat belts with pyrotechnical belt tensioning and belt-force limitation for driver, front passenger and rear passengers, numerous airbags serve to protect the vehicle’s occupants in an accident. Services include:

  • Frontal protection systems: Adaptive front airbags for driver and front passenger, additionally with a kneebag on the driver’s side
  • Side protection systems: Thorax/pelvisbags for driver and front passenger plus front and rear windowbags, with rear sidebags available as an option

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Climate control with satellite navigation

The air conditioning system in the new C-Class Coupé operates efficiently and ensures high air quality. As in the Saloon, it uses satellite navigation to detect tunnels.

It therefore closes the air recirculation flap automatically when entering a tunnel and opens it again after exiting a tunnel.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Vibrant infotainment experience

The new multimedia generation offers intuitive controls with animations and visual effects. Frontbass ensures a listening experience almost on a par with a concert hall – especially if the car is equipped with the optionally available Burmester® sound system.

The Frontbass system uses the space within the cross-member and side member in the body structure as a resonance chamber for the bass speakers.

The navigation system, which supplies the driver with precise traffic information in real time (Live Traffic Information), displays its contents interactively.

Its features include an animated compass and a “Drive Show” with information for passengers similar to the on-screen presentations aboard airliners.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Extensive networking even in the basic version

A Bluetooth®-compatible mobile phone with data option and tethering feature is all it takes to make even the Audio 20 system internet-capable.

This enables surfing the internet without restrictions when the vehicle is stationary. Mercedes-Benz Apps can be used while driving.

Audio and video playback is possible from various sources.

COMAND Online provides not only a larger display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels, it also allows digital TV/radio reception and, in addition to many other features, offers fast hard-disc navigation, integral W-LAN hotspot functionality and the LINGUATRONIC voice control system.

The basic Audio 20 system as well as Audio 20 CD and COMAND Online all offer basic telephony as standard, which links up a mobile phone to the vehicle via a standardised Bluetooth® interface.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Mercedes connect me: connected with the car

Like other models, the new C-Class Coupé has an extensive range of free Standard Services and Remote Online Services available as part of the “Mercedes connect me” package.

Standard Services include automatic emergency call (eCall), Accident Recovery, breakdown assistance and after-sales service.

The Remote Online services (standard with COMAND online and usable free of charge for the first three years) allow access to vehicle information from anywhere at all times, including the status of windows and doors, mileage, tyre pressures and other diagnostic data.

There is also a Vehicle Tracker function, remote door locking and unlocking, and remote auxiliary heating activation and deactivation.

With the new Mercedes me app, this also works with iOS and Android smartphones as well as with the Apple Watch.

Sporty, comfortable, individual

Sporty design, agile handling, hallmark Mercedes ambience and comfort determine the new C-Class Coupé.

The new C-Class Coupé has grown: With a wheelbase extended by 80 millimetres, the new C-Class Coupé is 95 millimetres longer and 40 millimetres wider.

Thanks to an optimised folding mechanism, it takes up six millimetres less in width with the mirrors folded.

These changed proportions give the new Coupé a stretched appearance and emphasise its sporty nature. To further boost this look, the ride height of the car is on a sports car level with the standard 17-inch tyres.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Sportiness meets beauty

As the sportiest incarnation of the C-Class, the Coupé plays to its character focusing on driving enjoyment in an emotionally appealing yet aesthetic design.

The new C-Class Coupé realises the basic idea of a sports car with the profile of a coupé.

A sporty striking front end featuring diamond radiator grille and long bonnet – the new Coupé is 60 millimetres longer than its predecessor between the firewall and front axle alone – gives way to a crouched greenhouse the lines of which flow into a bold and powerful-looking rear end.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

A high, taut beltline reduces the height of the side windows, the profile of which is highlighted by polished aluminium trim along the beltline and the roof contours.

In concert with the frameless doors, these elements stretch the vehicle visually and are reminiscent of the lines of the S-Class Coupé.

Exterior mirrors mounted to the beltline further emphasise the coupé character while improving forward visibility of the road at the same time.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The silhouette appears elongated, low and taut like a speedster. The dimensions bear out this visual impression. The coupé is 37 millimetres lower than the saloon model.

Clean lines and sensually arranged surfaces structure the side sections into vivid light and shadow effects.

As a hallmark Mercedes signature, the characteristic coupé form of the elongated dropping line adds a dynamic highlight.

In contrast to the C-Class Saloon, it is more elongated past the rear wheel arch. In tandem with a counter-line rising in the lower part of the vehicle from the front wheel, it creates a formal sense of tension.

The counter-line also makes the vehicle appear longer and ultimately transitions the sides into the rear creating a sense of balance.

Compared with the saloon model, the suspension is lowered by 15 millimetres as standard. Consequently, it already sits at the sport level with the standard 17-inch tyres. Light-alloy wheels with diameters of up to 19 inches (48.3 centimetres) are optionally available.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Sporty front

The front end of the Coupé differs from the Saloon model of the C-Class in that it has a sportier, distinctive shape. The sports grille with central Mercedes star is an eye-catcher.

Large air intakes in the bumper hint at the air requirements of the performance engines and underscore the sense of width and sportiness of the front end.

The AMG Line is even more expressive. Its diamond grille sports mirrored dots. The AMG Line bumper sports larger air intakes and larger fog lamp recesses as well as a wide chromed front splitter.

Headlamp contours with clean lines round out the face of the new C-Class Coupé. The LED daytime running lights in the torch design of Mercedes-Benz are integrated into the headlamps.

The Coupé comes with H7 halogen headlamps as standard. Two energy-saving LED headlamp variants are optionally available: a static and a dynamic version with “LED Intelligent Light System” and Adaptive Highbeam Assist, which makes driving with permanent high-beam possible by masking out detected road users in the cone of light.

Dynamic rear end

Compared with the saloon model, the C-Class Coupé has a completely newly designed rear end that carries the genes of the S-Class Coupé.

A strong taper in the C-pillar forms a powerful shoulder, which is distinctly sculpted and gives the impression of a muscle.

Because the number plate is located in the bumper, the designers were able to give the surfaces of the boot lid more definition.

This puts the focus more strongly on the Mercedes star centrally placed on the boot lid. It hides a retractable surround view camera that is available as an option.

Slim, redesigned two-section LED tail lights emphasise the vehicle’s width and underscore the sporty design.

The characteristic graphics of the lights with four horizontal LED bands provides a recognition factor day and night.

The slim design of the tail lights became feasible because the designers integrated the reflectors in the sportily styled rear bumper.

The exhaust system with two visible tailpipes integrated flush into the black lower section of the bumper and connected by chrome trim furthrer underscore the sporty character.

Except the C 220 d, C 250 d and C 180 models: They are fitted with a chrome wing. In conjunction with all engine variants, the AMG Line includes two visible pieces of tailpipe trim that are functional on petrol models and non-functional on diesel models.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Dynamics and modern luxury

Driver and passengers enjoy an ambience that leans toward the interior of the C-Class Saloon yet raises it to a new, sporty level.

The interior is likewise an emphatic statement of the Mercedes-Benz design philosophy of sensual purity.

The door and rear side panelling as well as the sweeping centre console merge smoothly, thus emphasising the coupé character.

As a DIRECT SELECT selector lever handles gear selection on vehicles with automatic transmissions, a large, one-piece centre console panel sweeps elegantly from the centre air vents to the touchpad in the handrest above the controller on the centre tunnel.

These seamless, clear-cut lines create a sense of open space and convey a sense of simple, purist modernity.

The large solitaire component is available in a host of materials – for example, with modern wood surfaces, in piano lacquer design or carbon.

On vehicles with manual transmission, the centre console is slightly steeper and features two separate trim elements in order to create optimal space for ergonomic operation of the shift lever.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

At a high level

A centrally positioned free-standing central display is the main eye-catching feature above the centre console – with a screen diagonal of 17.78 centimetres (7 inches), or 21.33 centimetres (8.4 inches) if COMAND Online is specified.

It floats in the ergonomically best position above the centre console and is connected with a piece of horizontal trim.

Thanks to its ergonomic positioning, the eye easily adapts to the central display. Visualisations and animations on the central display enhance the operating convenience and make the functions of driver assistance and communications systems tangible.

A wing-shaped piece of trim separates the upper and lower sections of the instrument panel. Its design makes it look like it is floating in the air.

The visual split also makes it possible to choose different material and colour combinations.

Interior lighting is largely provided by long-lasting and energy-saving LED technology. This also applies to the optionally available solar (amber), polar (ice blue) and neutral (white) ambience lighting.

The touchpad in the handrest of the central controller developed by Mercedes-Benz marks an evolutionary step. As on a smartphone, all the functions of the multimedia system can be operated using finger gestures.

The door panels of the frameless doors have a completely new design. The door panels and the rear side panelling merge together smoothly.

Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Coupé (C 205) 2015

Surfaces, colour combinations and seam patterns not only characterise the value appeal and an ambience moulded by the Mercedes guiding principle of modern luxury, but also underscore the sporty nature of the Coupé interior.

This also comes courtesy of the newly designed seats with integral seat look, which enhance the sense of spaciousness compared with the predecessor model.

Convenience features are the easy-to-operate coupé-specific controls of the easy entry function on the side of the backrest.

For the first time, optionally available automatic belt extenders aid in fastening the seat belt. The rear seats are designed as individual seats.

The stowage volume increased by 6.9 litres compared with the predecessor and now amounts to 24.8 litres (manual gearbox) and 28 litres with automatic transmission.

The unique position of the new C-Class Coupé is emphasised by the special upholstery colour combinations: saddle brown, porcelain and – in the Edition 1 – nut brown/black with turquoise topstitching.

An optional head-up display provides less distraction from traffic. As in a jet aircraft, it projects important information directly into the driver’s field of vision in front of the windscreen.

It displays the current speed, posted speed limits, navigation instructions and DISTRONIC messages  – depending on the selected settings.

The technology is based on mirror optics and a full-colour display module with a resolution of 480 x 240 pixels which is driven by high-power LEDs.

They project the virtual image, which measures around 21 x 7 centimetres, into the driver’s field of vision where it appears to float above the bonnet around two metres away.

The resolution of more than 60 pixels per degree of viewing angle ensures a needle-sharp image.

A light sensor automatically adjusts the brightness of the head-up display to the exterior lighting conditions. In addition, the driver can adjust the height of the virtual image so that it is easy to read.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Sportily agile and comfortable

The lowered standard suspension with wider track and specific tuning offers a high ride quality with low road roar and tyre vibration whilst ensuring agile driving dynamics – the basis for driving enjoyment on twisty roads.

A new 4-link front axle with wheel suspension decoupled from the spring strut plays a major part in the agile handling.

This enables sporty axle kinematics for plenty of grip and high lateral stability. As a result, the suspension responds more sensitively to steering movements and allows a sporty, agile driving style.

Because the components of the new front axle such as the tie rods, spring links, wishbones and steering knuckles are made of aluminium, it weighs about two kilogrammes less than a corresponding steel design.

This enables a sensitive response.

A multi-link independent rear suspension with 5 links ensures excellent wheel control qualities and supreme straight-line stability.

The rear axle carrier and the spring control arms are made of forged aluminium. A large rear axle bearing contributes to improved isolation of vibrations and thus to the outstanding NVH characteristics and ride quality.

The Coupé comes with a steel suspension as standard. Two suspensions with selective damping are available in conjunction with this system:

  • a comfortable AGILITY CONTROL suspension with sporty character and a ride height lowered by 15 millimetres compared with the saloon model
  • a sports suspension with tauter springing and damping including the Sports Direct-Steer system for even more agile handling

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

First in class: riding on air

The Coupé is the first vehicle in its segment to come with the optional AIRMATIC air suspension on the front and rear axle.

Its electronically controlled, continuously adjustable damping on the front and rear axle ensures outstanding road roar and tyre vibration characteristics in every situation and gives the driver the option of selecting the desired driving style: sporty, comfortable or consumption-optimised.

To this end, the driver can select one of five driving modes using the DYNAMIC SELECT Switch:  “ECO”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport +” and “Individual”. Selecting “Individual” allows the driver to customise the vehicle settings.

The adaptive damping system allows a high level of driving dynamics because the system adapts the damping forces to the vehicle’s driving dynamics within fractions of a second.

At the same time AIRMATIC is characterised by a comfortable ride usually only found in the luxury segment. It smooths out expansion joints, asphalt patches and undulating asphalt caused by trucks braking at traffic lights.

AIRMATIC also features all-round self-levelling for excellent ride comfort even with the vehicle loaded. It controls the ride height automatically depending on the speed and reduces fuel consumption on the motorway by lowering the vehicle, for example.

This also improves driving safety. Furthermore, the ground clearance can be increased at the push of a button using the ride-height adjustment switch on rough roads or poor access roads.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Sporty steering feel

The C-Class Coupé is equipped with an electro-mechanical Direct-Steer system with a sporty, direct character.

It combines speed-sensitive power assist from the speed-sensitive steering with a steering ratio that varies according to the given steering angle.

Advantages of the electromechanical Direct-Steer system:

  • improved agility thanks to more direct steering response
  • comfortable handling and high level of steering comfort at all speeds
  • considerable savings potential, since energy is only required when steering occurs
  • enables the use of assistance systems, such as Active Park Assist

Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Coup

Fade-resistant brakes for short stopping distances

The brakes meet high requirements with regard to stopping distance, response, fade resistance, directional stability and service life of the brake pads. The braking

system is furthermore equipped with ADAPTIVE BRAKE that offers the following advantages:

  • Hill-start assist prevents rolling back on a hill
  • a HOLD function keeps the vehicle immobile without having to depress the brake pedal
  • in the rain, a brake-drying function regularly wipes the moisture from the brake discs to make full braking power instantly available
  • the priming function lightly puts the brake pads into contact with the discs the instant the driver releases the accelerator quickly, and can consequently shorten the stopping distance during subsequent braking.

In addition, the new C-Class Coupé comes with an electric parking brake with ‘Comfort Go’ automatic release as standard. It automatically releases the parking brake when the driver intends to start off.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Other brake functions:

  • As a torque vectoring brake it provides for additional safety at the limit by purposefully vectoring the torque between the wheels of the driven axle by means of one-sided brake interventions.
  • The adaptive brake lights can warn vehicles following behind of heavy braking and shorten their reaction time.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Against the wind

Outstanding fuel consumption figures require great aerodynamic properties. The new C-Class Coupé has the lowest drag coefficient in its segment.

Mercedes-Benz offers the most streamlined cars with the lowest drag coefficients in almost all vehicle categories. The new C-Class Coupé boasts a Cd value of 0.26.

C-Class Coupé Predecessor
Drag coefficient Cd 0.26 0.27
Frontal area (A), m2 2.18 2.11
Aerodynamic drag Cd x A 0.57 0.57

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Because the aerodynamic drag is greater than all other driving resistance forces from a speed of about 70 km/h, this top figure of the C-Class Coupé pays off in the form of fuel savings and reductions in CO2 emissions – especially at higher rates of speed such as when driving on the motorway.

A reduction in the Cd value by 0.01 points translates into one gramme less of CO2 per km in the driving cycle (NEDC), while it can equate two grammes in averaged real-world consumption and actually as much as five grammes of CO2 per kilometre at 150 km/h.

Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Coupé (C 205) 2015

Intensive detail work for Cd benchmark

The aerodynamics engineers achieved the Cd value of the C-Class Coupé with an extensive bundle of measures. They include:

  • aerodynamically designed front and rear bumpers
  • aerodynamic wheel spoilers, at the front with 3-D shape and auxiliary spoiler on the front engine bay shroud
  • sealing between wheel arches and engine compartment
  • aerodynamically designed exterior mirrors with mirror base
  • sealing around headlamps and aero lip in the gap between the bonnet and the front bumper
  • Improved sealing of the radiator section and flow properties to make efficient use of the available cooling air
  • spoiler modelled on the boot lid
  • aerodynamically optimised underbody with extensive engine compartment and underbody panelling
  • aerodynamically optimised wheels and tyres

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

More rigid and sturdy, safer

Intelligent lightweight construction with a higher proportion of aluminium helps make the Coupé lighter yet more rigid than its predecessor.

As for the saloon model, the body shell engineers employed the principle of sustainable lightweight construction for the new C-Class Coupé.

Light-alloy components include the wings, bonnet and boot lid. Consequently, they were able to reduce the weight of the Coupé by up to 50 kilogrammes.

In addition, they designed every detail in a way that results in the body shell meeting demanding standards with unprecedented performance in this segment – for example, with regard to the transfer of forces from the chassis to the body or the NVH characteristics.

High-strength and ultra-high-strength materials play an important role in this regard. Their use resulted in higher rigidity and strength of the body shell.

This has positive effects on the driving dynamics and the noise level.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Safety first

In keeping with Mercedes-Benz traditions, the body shell is designed for exemplary crash safety.

The Coupé not only meets all current national and international laws, but also all rating requirements as well as the more stringent internal Mercedes-Benz safety requirements, which are based on what actually happens in real-life accidents.

A high-strength safety passenger compartment forms the core of this concept. It consists primarily of high-strength and ultra-high-strength sheet steel and panels with graduated wall thicknesses designed to withstand specific local stresses.

Many segments consist of hot-formed steels, which as the result of this production process become very hard and less deformable.

The rigid safety cell is surrounded by purposefully calculated deformation zones that have been tested in practice.

Thanks to optimised force paths, they produce outstanding crash test results (e.g. Euro NCAP and U.S. NCAP) and ensure maximum safety for the occupants.

Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Coupé (C 205) 2015

Driving safely, reducing stress

Additional assistance systems, expanded with significant functions compared with the predecessor modell, enhance both the comfort and safety of the new C-Class Coupé.

It comes as standard with the ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection system and COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, which can help to prevent rear-end collisions or mitigate their severity.

A sensor system, the scope of which can be expansive depending on the customer’s selected options, provides the basis for the intelligent assistance systems.

The standard-specification model comes with a multi-mode radar (range up to 80 metres) in the front bumper that supports the functions of the COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS. If the DISTRONIC PLUS is specified, this sensor is replaced by a long-range radar (up to 200 metres) behind the radiator grille.

Depending on the equipment features, these sensors can be supplemented with a mono camera behind the windscreen for functions such as Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Sign Assist or Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, as well as near-range radar sensors (30 metres) at the side in the rear bumper for Blind Spot Assist.

In the case of a fully equipped vehicle with the Driving Assistance Plus package, the coordinated sensor system provides the vehicle with a 360-degree view.

This is in part courtesy of a stereo multi-purpose camera (SMPC) behind the windscreen. Two camera eyes provide it with a three-dimensional view of the area up to around 50 metres in front of the vehicle, and it is able to monitor the overall situation ahead for a range of up to 500 metres and thus determine the position and movement of objects, especially of vehicles and pedestrians.

Two short-range radar sensors in the front bumper and at the sides of the rear bumper (range of up to 30 metres), a long-range radar (up to 200 metres) including mid-range scan (up to 60 metres) behind the radiator grille and a multi-mode radar (up to 80 metres) in the centre of the rear bumper are also part of the sensor system.

Combining the data from the camera and the radar sensors is crucial in order to provide useful data for a host of assistance systems – a process dubbed “sensor fusion”.

Intelligent algorithms analyse this data in order to detect and pinpoint the position of vehicles ahead, crossing, approaching from the rear and even from the front, as well as of pedestrians, within a large field of vision.

In addition, the camera can also detect road markings and a variety of traffic signs. The aim is enhanced comfort, assistance and all-round protection not just for occupants of the own vehicle, but also for other road users.

Combating inattention and rear-end collisions

There is a host of optional safety and assistance systems based on the Mercedes‑Benz Intelligent Drive concept on board the new C-Class Coupé.

ATTENTION ASSIST with adjustable sensitivity, which can warn the driver of inattentiveness and drowsiness, is included as standard.

Further standard equipment includes COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS. This further advanced system can provide effective aid in mitigating the severity of rear-end collisions or even in preventing them entirely.

To this end, the radar-based system constantly monitors the area of traffic in front of the vehicle, and can determine the distance and speed of the vehicles ahead.

If the following distance drops significantly below the safety threshold at speeds above 30 km/h, the system gives the driver a visual warning.

If it detects a serious risk of collision at speeds above 7 km/h, the driver receives an additional audible warning.

The system also computes the brake pressure required to prevent a collision, if this is still possible. If the warned driver then depresses the brake pedal firmly, the system is capable of boosting insufficient braking commensurate to the situation.

In so doing it makes the best possible use of the remaining distance in order to leave vehicles following behind space for braking manoeuvres.

If the driver fails to respond, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS can go one step further and if the danger of collision persists can perform autonomous braking for slower moving and stopping vehicles at speeds of up to 200 km/h to mitigate the severity of the accident and ideally prevent the collision entirely.

The system even brakes when stationary vehicles are detected up to a speed of 50 km/h, and can prevent rear-end collisions up to 40 km/h depending on the situation.

In addition, more assistance systems with expanded functions compared with the predecessor model are optionally available, which can significantly enhance comfort and safety:

  • DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist and Stop&Go Pilot is an adaptive cruise control system that can adjust the speed of the vehicle in line with a slower-moving vehicle ahead in a speed range from 0 to 200 km/h if required. Likewise available from 0 to 200 km/h, steering interventions help the driver stay in lane. At speeds below 130 km/h, for example in tailbacks or when driving bumper to bumper, the system can follow the vehicle ahead even where there are no or unclear lane markings, thus enabling the driver to safely and comfortably follow the flow of traffic.
  • Apart from vehicles travelling ahead and stationary vehicles, BAS PLUS Brake Assist can also detect crossing traffic and boost the braking force if the driver fails to apply the brakes sufficiently. In addition to slower-moving, stopping and stationary vehicles, the PRE-SAFE® Brake can even detect pedestrians and brake autonomously if the driver fails to react, thus preventing accidents at speeds of up to 50 km/h and mitigating the severity of collisions at speeds of up to 70 km/h. In flowing traffic, the PRE-SAFE® Brake provides assistance in the same way throughout the entire speed range from 7 to 200 km/h.
  • Enhanced Active Lane Keeping Assist can now also prevent the vehicle from unintentionally drifting out of lane by applying the brakes on one side when the lane markings are solid or broken and there is a risk of collision, e.g. as a result of vehicles overtaking at high speed, parallel traffic or even oncoming traffic.
  • PRE-SAFE® PLUS extends the Intelligent Drive functions to take account of imminent rear impacts. It warns the following traffic by activating the rear hazard warning lights at increased frequency and initiating preventive PRE-SAFE® occupant protection measures such as the reversible belt tensioner immediately prior to the impact. If the vehicle is stationary, the brakes are locked to reduce the forward jolt, which reduces the forces acting on the occupants and the risk of secondary collisions.

Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Coupé (C 205) 2015

Listening pleasure guaranteed

The Frontbass system, which was honoured with the Daimler Research and Innovation Award, delivers extraordinary sound quality.

The customary woofers in the doors are replaced in the new C-Class Coupé with a woofer (Burmester® surround sound system: two woofers) installed in the front longitudinal and cross-members in the footwell in front of driver and front passenger.

The cavities behind the speakers serve as a resonance chamber. Because these structures are inherently very rigid, the bass notes reproduced here are very precise and have little distortion, even with very high signal levels.

As no woofers now need to be accommodated in the doors, the irritating vibrations that are typical of such configurations are eliminated.

The mid-range speakers and tweeters move closer to the vehicle’s beltline and thus almost to the passengers’ ear level. As a result, they create a brilliant sound.

Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Coupé (C 205) 2015

Sound system – concert hall sound

Mercedes-Benz offers the Burmester® surround sound system as an option for audiophiles, which brings a concert hall atmosphere to the Coupé.

The Burmester® surround sound system drives 13 loudspeakers (standard specification 5) with a 9-channel DSP amplifier and a total system output of 590 watts (standard specification 100 watts).

All loudspeakers are additionally optimised for performance with this sound system.

Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Coupé (C 205) 2015

Modern-style navigation

The Audio 20 CD can optionally be supplemented with the Garmin® MAP PILOT navigation system. Its merits include accurate map data and excellent route guidance.

3-D views with realistic views of streets and buildings as well as photo-realistic junction and lane assistants make orientation easier. Intuitive operation is provided by the Controller or the touchpad.

The character recognition feature of the touchpad allows text input. The navigation system can also be operated by voice control. Software and maps can be updated easily via the internet.

The fast 3-D hard-disc navigation of COMAND Online with topographical map display, photo-realistic 3-D buildings and 3-D map rotations, as well as display of NASA satellite images, makes for a sensory experience.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

connected with the car

Under the name “Mercedes connect me”, Mercedes-Benz offers an extensive package of free standard services via a KOM module integrated into the vehicle.

This module also makes it possible to use the fee-based Remote Online services. The range of services is being expanded continuously.

The free standard services include automatic emergency call (eCall), Accident Recovery, Breakdown Management and Maintenance Management.

In an accident, the Mercedes-Benz emergency call system automatically connects the occupants with the Mercedes-Benz Emergency Call Centre and sends the position and condition of the vehicle to the rescue operations centre.

A rescue vehicle can then be dispatched immediately. The system can also be triggered manually.

15C889_08

The “Mercedes connect me” standard services also include:

  • Accident Recovery – after the Mercedes-Benz emergency call, the system connects to the Customer Assistance Centre so that additional assistance can be requested, where necessary, to deal with an accident, e.g. a tow truck.
  • Breakdown Management – provides technical assistance in the event of a breakdown. To this end, the position and condition of the vehicle are transmitted to the Customer Assistance Centre, which informs Mercedes‑Benz Service 24h. This allows the Mercedes-Benz Service 24h to provide fast and optimal help.
  • Maintenance Management – the vehicle detects and reports pending maintenance needs and sends the necessary data to the service outlet as the basis for preparing a service quote.
  • Telediagnostics – the vehicle detects the need for replacement of diagnostics-capable wear parts and reports this to the service outlet. The service outlet contacts the customer to arrange a workshop appointment. The previously transmitted data enable the workshop to provide optimal assistance.

Connected to the car via internet

The optional extra Remote Online (standard with COMAND Online and free to use for the first three years) allows drivers to connect to their vehicle from anywhere and at any time via “mercedes.me“ to retrieve vehicle data and remotely activate various vehicle functions.

With the new Mercedes me app, this also works with iOS and Android smartphones as well as with the Apple Watch.

The optional Remote Online services include:

  • Parked Vehicle Locator – allows the vehicle position to be determined, for example, if the vehicle was parked in an unfamiliar city. This makes it possible to conveniently find the vehicle within a range of 1.5 kilometres with the help of a smartphone.
  • Vehicle Tracker – enables the latest position of a moving vehicle to be pinpointed via GPS. The driver has a display in the vehicle and can deactivate the service at any time with a toll-free call to the Customer Assistance Centre.
  • Geofencing – shows where the vehicle is in an area previously defined on the map and informs the owner if the car leaves or enters this area. Like the Vehicle Tracker, this service can also be deactivated by the driver at any time.
  • Remote door locking and unlocking – allows opening or closing the vehicle doors remotely, for example, if the driver forgets to lock the vehicle. Remote Retrieval of Vehicle Status – vehicle data such as fuel level, range and more can be accessed from home or while on the road.
  • Programming of Auxiliary Heating – if the vehicle is equipped with auxiliary heating, all functions such as starting, switching off or programming of the timer can be controlled online via a smartphone.

Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Coupé (C 205) 2015 Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Coup

The new Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé

The sportiest C-Class ever

Affalterbach. Mercedes-AMG is setting a further landmark in the brand history: the new C 63 Coupé is the next step on the way to yet more technical and visual distinctiveness.

The profound technical modifications are evident at first sight: strikingly flared front and rear wheel arches, an increased track width and larger wheels give the Coupé a muscular look while at the same time providing a basis for the highly agile longitudinal and lateral dynamics.

The brand’s hallmark “Driving Performance” reaches a new level in the C 63 Coupé.

The AMG 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine rated at 350 kW (476 hp) or 375 kW (510 hp) is an in-house development from Affalterbach, as is the sophisticated AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers, the set-up of the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes, the rear-axle limited-slip differential or the dynamic engine mounts.

“Like the AMG GT, the new C 63 Coupé embodies the independence of our brand. It offers longitudinal and lateral dynamics at an extremely high level along with improved fuel economy”, says Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

“In addition, we are making a bold visual statement with the muscular design. Our customers can therefore experience the new Coupé with all of their senses: seeing, hearing, feeling and, above all, driving!”

Fascinating design visualises outstanding performance

The Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé fascinates even at first glance with its impressive proportions.

The expressive exterior design differs significantly from the standard Mercedes-Benz model, which shares merely the same doors, roof and boot lid.

The powerful eight-cylinder engine as well as the wider track of the front and rear axles call for a redesigned front end, a model-specific rear assembly and new side walls.

The flared wheel arches make the AMG Coupé 64 millimetres wider at the front and 66 millimetres wider at the rear, enabling the vehicle to hug the road better.

The larger wheel arches allow the use of wider tyres (up to 255 millimetres on the front axle and up to 285 millimetres on the rear axle), contributing to improved lateral acceleration, traction and agility.

Under the outer skin, the body structure has been reinforced in key areas to transfer and compensate the extreme longitudinal and lateral forces from the powertrain and suspension.

There is also the model-specific rear axle carrier.

The 60-millimetre-longer aluminium bonnet is adorned by two distinctive power domes, which are among the typical distinguishing features and underscore the muscular appearance.

The extremely wide front section is characterised by large air inlets and precisely positioned flics. The low, arrow-shaped “twin blade” radiator grille with AMG lettering visually lowers the vehicle’s centre of gravity.

The typical AMG “A-wing” is serving as an air deflector for the three cooling air intakes. Additional flics ensure an optimal flow of air to the cooling modules.

And a front splitter at the bottom of the front apron helps to reduce front-axle lift.

The side line, too, presents an entirely unique face thanks to the large wheels, which finish flush with the body on the far outside, and the special side skirts.

The lateral inward step from door to sill lends additional emphasis to the wide base.

Added benefit of the newly designed body elements: no compromises were required with regard to the connection of the aprons and other components: every joint and light-catching contour blends in harmoniously with the overall design.

In the diagonal view from behind, the muscular line from roof to shoulder via side wall and wheel cut-out looks especially impressive, adding to the impression of an intricately modelled sculpture with alternating light reflections.

Refined detail: In typical sports car fashion, the exterior mirrors are mounted on the door rather than in the mirror triangle.

Taking its inspiration from the S-Class Coupé, the completely redesigned rear end includes a diffuser insert that invokes a typical feature from motor sport.

The special design of the laterally positioned, optical air outlet openings improves the rear air flow, allowing it to break away with aerodynamically advantageous precision.

Features such as the narrow rear reflectors reinforce the impression of width. The two chrome-plated twin tailpipes of the exhaust system are perfectly integrated into the diffuser.

The boot lid includes a narrow spoiler lip in the form of a sharp blade. It not only looks elegant, but also produces more downforce on the rear axle.

Interior with high-class appeal

The careful selection of high-class materials, their high-quality touch and feel as well as the meticulous workmanship lend the interior a high-class appeal.

The instrument panel is trimmed with black ARTICO man-made leather. Crystal grey topstitching, the wing-shaped aluminium trim and the AMG-specific analogue clock in IWC design (depending on specification) underscore the high-quality impression.

Numerous AMG-specific controls underscore the motor sport heritage. As an alternative to the standard sports seats in ARTICO/microfibre DINAMICA man-made leather, Performance seats are also available: these allow the occupants a lower seating position and are more strongly contoured for increased lateral support.

Top performance

Also as regards its engine, the C 63 Coupé occupies an exceptional status among the competition, being the only vehicle in the segment to boast an 8-cylinder biturbo engine.

Mercedes-AMG thus precisely meets the wishes of those customers who desire a combination of a highly emotionally appealing, unmistakable engine sound and high-torque power delivery.

The driver also benefits from the impressive performance: the C 63 S Coupé accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, the C 63 Coupé in 4.0 seconds.

The top speed is 250 km/h (electronically limited; 290 km/h with AMG Driver’s Package).

With a power-to-weight ratio of 3.4 kg/hp (C 63 S) and 3.6 kg/hp (C 63), the new AMG V8 top models likewise head the field in this segment.

New V8 biturbo closely related to the engine in the Mercedes-AMG GT

The 4.0-litre eight-cylinder biturbo engine is already used in the C 63 Saloon and the C 63 Estate. It is also installed in the GT sports car with dry sump lubrication.

A characteristic feature is that the two turbochargers are positioned not on the outside of the cylinder banks, but between them in the ‘V’ – experts call this a ‘hot inside V’.

The main advantages of this design are the compact engine construction, optimal response and low exhaust gas emissions.

A host of measures combines maximum performance with favourable fuel consumption figures. The spray-guided direct petrol injection system ensures clean and efficient combustion with high thermodynamic efficiency.

Fast-acting piezo injectors enable multiple injections of fuel to be delivered to the engine on demand and with the utmost precision.

Technology from motor racing

The patented NANOSLIDE cylinder coating, which is also being used in Formula 1 racing today, reduces the friction of the cylinder liners and increases durability.

By way of comparison: The surfaces of the cylinder liners of the AMG V8 engine are twice as hard as conventional grey cast liners.

The closed deck design of the crankcase is likewise found in motor sport and ensures the crankcase’s extreme stability. Lightweight forged pistons lower the engine weight while offering supreme strength.

The large cooling system is comparable to that of the S 65 and thus ensures the engine’s performance even under extreme stress ‑ for example during track days on the racetrack.

The same is true for the flow-optimised cylinder heads, which are made of a special heat-resistant alloy.

Continuous adjustment of the intake and exhaust camshafts improves power delivery and efficiency. It delivers excellent throttle response and optimises the charge cycle for every operating point.

An oil pump with variable control also contributes to low fuel consumption.

AMG Performance-Abgasanlage AMG performance exhaust system

Exhaust system with flap technology for variable engine sound

The typical V8 engine sound was likewise a key development goal. A sport exhaust system with exhaust flap comes as standard.

It is map-controlled depending on the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving mode, the power demanded by the driver and the engine speed.

The engine sound varies accordingly between discreet/suitable for long-distance driving and throaty/emotionally appealing.

A Performance exhaust system with three selectable exhaust flaps is optionally available for both engine variants.

This gives the driver an even wider sound range: In driving mode “Comfort“, the engine is even more comfortable and quiet, while in “Sport +” and “Race” mode the typical sound of an AMG V8 is even more dominant.

In any case, the exhaust systems are designed in such a way that all statutory noise limits are complied with at all times irrespective of the flap position.

Variable dynamics: the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission

The transmission plays a major part in the direct and sporty character of the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé.

The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission impresses with its tailor-made dynamics and high variability.

Whether automatic or initiated by the driver using the steering wheel shift paddles, upshifts and downshifts are executed noticeably faster than in the previous model.

Especially in “Sport+“ and in manual mode, the transmission response is now even more prompt. This enhanced spontaneity was made possible by optimising the transmission hardware and software.

Furthermore, the aluminium paddle shifters are now able to transmit the driver’s commands to change gears even faster than before. The tangible driving dynamics are thus enhanced further.

AMG Sport-Parameterlenkung AMG speed-sensitive sports steering

Model-specific suspension for superior dynamism

The basis for the agile handling of the C 63 Coupé is the specially designed suspension with a high percentage of aluminium, performance-oriented kinematics, electronically controlled shock absorbers and AMG-specific elastokinematics.

A four-link front suspension with radial, racing-style brake connections is used. Model-specific steering knuckles and a wider track allow greater lateral acceleration.

The rear axle has also been newly developed from the ground up. The multi-link concept impresses with highly precise wheel control and increased rigidity.

All in all, the rear axle uses 12 links for optimising wheel control. The AMG-specific rear axle carrier makes the increased track width possible; the contact surfaces of both wheels were moved a further 25 millimetres towards the outside in comparison with the Saloon.

Other measures include discrete wheel carriers, a firmer elastokinematic set-up and a higher negative camber.

Additional reinforcement measures in the body shell improve the noise, vibration and harshness characteristics.

Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse Coupé (C 205) 2015

Sports suspension with 3-stage adaptive damping

With the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension, the customer is able to choose between maximum sportiness and pronounced long-distance comfort in three stages at the push of a button.

The difference between the comfortable and sporty suspension setting is now even more perceptible – depending on the particular driving situation.

The damping stages can be selected via the DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes or with a separate button.

As standard, the C 63 runs on multi-spoke light-alloy wheels painted titanium grey with high-sheen finish, in size 9.0 x 18 (front) and 10.5 x 18 (rear), with tyre size 255/40 R 18 (front) and 285/35 R 18 (rear).

The C 63 S runs on tyres of sizes 255/35 R 19 (front) and 285/30 R 19 (rear) mounted on 9.0 J x 19 (front) and 10.5 J x 19 (rear) 5-spoke light-alloy wheels painted titanium grey with high-sheen finish.

Other tyre/wheel combinations are optionally available. These include staggered tyres with forged cross-spoke wheels, painted matte black with high-sheen rim flange.

The front axle features tyres of size 255/35 R 19 on 9.0 J x 19 wheels. The rear axle is fitted with tyres of size 285/30 R 20 on 10.5 J x 20 wheels.

Rear-axle limited-slip differential: optimal traction, including on the race track

For improved traction and vehicle dynamics, the C 63 Coupé has a mechanical rear-axle limited-slip differential, while the C 63 S Coupé comes with an electronic version.

Both differentials reduce the slip on the inside wheel when cornering, without control interventions in the braking system.

This allows the driver to accelerate out of corners earlier thanks to the improved traction. The car remains more stable when braking from high speeds, and the limited-slip differential also improves traction when accelerating fast from a standing start.

The greatest benefit of the electronic rear-axle limited-slip differential is the even more sensitive and faster control, which pushes the thresholds higher and makes it even easier to drive at the vehicle’s limits.

Contrary to conventional differentials, the rear-axle limited-slip differential uses a multi-disc clutch and two compression rings.

This ensures that the torque is always sent to the wheel with better traction and that the inside wheel is prevented from slipping because the multi-disc clutch channels the torque as needed.

The standard 3-stage ESP® with the settings “ESP On”, “Sport Handling Mode” and “ESP Off” works in perfect unison with the rear-axle limited-slip differential and is optimally tuned to the outstanding dynamics.

The electromechanical, speed-sensitive sports steering ensures precise, agile handling. The driver benefits from a direct steering ratio and optimum responsiveness.

Furthermore, the system features variable power assist that is adapted electronically to the current vehicle speed.

It not only responds depending on the given road speed, but also according to the current lateral acceleration and the selected AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive mode.

The high-performance braking system of the C 63 Coupé ensures short stopping distances and excellent control with cross-drilled and vented brake discs measuring 360 millimetres in diameter at the front and rear.

The C 63 S Coupé is fitted with compound brake discs with a diameter of 390 millimetres to account for the increased performance.

A high-performance compound braking system with ceramic discs measuring 402 millimetres in diameter on the front axle is optionally available for the C 63 S Coupé.

They weigh just half of comparable conventional brake discs and as a result reduce unsprung masses. This in turn improves turn-in, which responds even more spontaneously to the driver’s steering commands.

AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes

The four different driving modes “Comfort“, “Sport“, “Sport+“ and “Individual“ allow drivers to influence the characteristics of their C 63 Coupé.

The C 63 S Coupé has an additional “RACE” driving mode allowing for a completely personalised driving style. The driver selects the driving experience using a controller to the left of the touchpad.

“Comfort” is the well-balanced driving mode with a comfort-oriented suspension and steering set-up as well as a fuel-efficient powertrain configuration – including smooth gearshifts and a discreet exhaust note.

The “sailing function” for a further reduction in fuel consumption is completely new: when the driver releases the accelerator in a speed range between 60 and 160 km/h, the clutch of the MCT transmission is disengaged and the engine is decoupled from the powertrain.

The electronics reduce the engine speed to idle level, and the driving resistance is reduced by the compression and frictional forces of the engine in overrun mode.

The driving modes “Sport“ and “Sport+“ enhance the sporty intensity. “RACE“ is exclusive to the C 63 S Coupé and the optimal setting for ambitious laps on a racetrack.

C 63 S Coupé with dynamic engine mounts as standard

Unique in its segment, the C 63 S Coupé – like the Saloon and the Estate – is equipped with dynamic engine mounts.

These resolve the conflicting aims of comfort and dynamic performance by reducing vibrations in the engine/transmission unit.

These dynamic mounts are instantly and variably able to adapt their rigidity to the driving conditions and style of driving.

Soft engine mounts improve comfort, as they provide more effective decoupling of noise and vibration. However, handling and agility benefit from a generally stiffer mount set-up.

The driver feels more connected to the vehicle when driving dynamically, as there is more feedback and the steering response is more direct. All in all, the driver benefits from a more precise driving sensation.

Safety of the highest calibre

All assistance systems available for the C-Class Coupé can also be ordered for the C 63 Coupé.

It comes as standard with the further advanced ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection system and COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, which helps to prevent rear-end collisions.

Edition 1: special model inspired by motor sport for the market launch

The new Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé and C 63 S Coupé are also available as “Edition 1” special models from market launch.

The extraordinary combination of exclusive design and equipment features is inspired by the appearance of the future Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM racing coupés, which will compete in the globally popular Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) racing series in 2016.

Two exterior designs address different customer wishes. The first variant, available exclusively for the S-Model is particularly striking: The colour scheme in designo magno selenite grey matt paint with yellow film coating borrows the look of the International Motor Show launch version of the 2016 C 63 DTM and thus highlights its proximity to motor sport.

Yellow sport stripes adorn the engine bonnet, roof, boot lid as well as the side lines above the rocker panels.

With yellow painted rim flanges, the extremely light and matte black Performance 5-twin-spoke forged wheels also set distinctive accents.

Size 9.0 J x 19 with 255/35 R 19 tyres are used at the front, 10.5 J x 20 with 285/30 R 20 tyres at the rear. The custom sports tyres offer a tangibly enhanced level of traction on dry roads.

The C 63 S Coupé Edition 1 is standard-equipped with the AMG ceramic high-performance compound braking system offering maximum deceleration and lower unsprung masses, thus likewise enhancing racetrack performance.

The exterior of the second Edition 1 variant is more restrained. The sport stripes are rendered in graphite grey matt and the rim flanges of the matt black forged wheels have a high-sheen cross-spoke design.

Sport tyres and the ceramic high-performance compound braking system are available as an option for this variant. In addition, all exterior paint finishes are available for this model.

In both variants, the AMG Aerodynamics package in high-gloss black enhances the racing-inspired appearance.

The additional large front spoiler, specific side sills, lateral stall strips integrated into the rear bumper, the specific rear diffuser and the specific stall strip on the boot lid not only reduce lift, but also sharpen the visual impression.

The AMG Night package with chrome-plated tailpipe trim is also in the series-production version of the Edition 1.

The genuine racing feel continues in the interior. The AMG Performance seats are upholstered in Nappa leather, including the colour yellow in the contrasting topstitching of the specific diamond pattern.

In addition, the more sharply-contoured seat shape enhances lateral support, particularly in curves taken at high speed.

Yellow contrasting topstitching is also found on the door centre panels, the armrests, the steering wheel rim and the beltlines.

Additional yellow accents adorn the instrument cluster, the AMG-specific analogue clock in IWC design and the floor mats.

With the DINAMICA microfibre Performance steering wheel with flat bottom, the driver always has the C 63 Coupé safely under control.

The matte carbon trim in the centre console rounds out the impressive appearance of the Edition 1 model.

History: in the tradition of “The Hammer” (from 1988)

Mercedes-AMG is known making its marks – preferably exclamation marks! In fact, in the form of breath-taking high-performance vehicles.

The company history is consequently filled with milestones of mechanical engineering that quickly became icons for car enthusiasts all over the world.

A typical example is the 300 CE 5.6 and 6.0 of model series W 124 from 1988 on. The wide-body coupé and the saloon model impressed with thrilling looks and above all sensational performance on the road.

The powerful V8 cars were the first AMG special models to reach a top speed in excess of 300 km/h – and as a result made the covers of renowned car magazines around the globe.

The Americans lovingly dubbed these models “The Hammer”.

CLK 63 AMG Black Series (2007)

The brawny coupé was based on the Official F1™ Safety Car from AMG at the time: it was powered by an uprated 6.3-litre V8 engine producing an output of 373 kW/507 hp.

The coupé accelerated from rest to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and reached an electronically limited top speed of 300 km/h.

Newly designed axles, the coil-over sports suspension developed at great cost, 19-inch forged wheels, the newly developed steering system and the bigger high-performance braking system guaranteed driving dynamics of the highest order.

C 63 Coupé Black Series (2011)

In 2011, the C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series marked the pinnacle of the C-Class range with spectacular design, technology transfer from motor sport, an output of 380 kW (517 hp) and driving dynamics at the highest level.

Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h took 4.2 seconds. The adjustable coil-over suspension was also a contributing factor in the exclusive driving pleasure, as was the high-performance compound braking system and the functional standard equipment level.

To enhance the driving dynamics even further, an optional Track package with competition tyres and active cooling of the rear differential gear, an Aerodynamics package with flics, functionally tuned front splitter and adjustable carbon rear aerofoil were available.
